1. .info is the Sixth Largest TLD

Did you know that .info is already the sixth largest TLD (top level domain) in the world after only becoming available in 2001? Currently, over 400,000 websites call .info home. Of those 400,000 websites, 33 percent are operated by Germans. Thus, the recent news of the adding of German scripts to .info domains.

2. 60-Day Transfer Rule

Did you know that you have to wait 60 days after a domain is registered before it can be transferred? This rule really comes into play when you backorder a name through pool.com or SnapNames.com and the registrar that actually catches the name has no “push” feature. Giving the buyer your account info (if only one domain is in it) can be the best solution if you don’t intend to backorder anymore names. If you do keep backordering, it may be best to wait two months before trying to sell those names.

5. Pool.com Launches Domain Marketplace

With Verisign’s WLS now a good possibility, Pool.com is taking steps to ensure they remain relevant. They've launched a domain marketplace where domainers can sell to other domainers with Pool acting as the middleman. Sales occur via Auction, Fixed Price, or Dutch Auction. In a Dutch Auction, multiple customers can add a domain to their cart, but the first to pay secures it. Note: Domains must be transferred to NameScout.com before selling on their MarketPlace.

6. 3-Letter .us Domains Are All Taken

Like .biz and .info, all 3-letter .us domains are now taken. The rush was driven by discussions on dnforum.com. While .ws and .tv still have 3-letter domains, they cost $500 per year with a two-year minimum. The days of registering 3-letter domains for $5–$10 are over.

7. Free .info Domains Promotion

Although .coms were once free years ago, domains are rarely free now. However, .info is offering a promotion in September where people can register up to 25 .info domains for free at selected registrars. This has led to many low-quality domains being registered in a frenzy. It will be interesting to see how this affects the .info landscape moving forward.
